Purely Football - Part I

The one thing I enjoy doing during these working months is Football. The absence of playing football for one month has made me hungry for more. Ever since the stupid injury took over my leg, I never touched a ball football.

Looking at the game from a players aspect, I personally feel more important in pplaying in a DM @ ball winner or AMC @ playmaker. For a player to do so, there are certain things which ables them to hold that certain position.

For instance a DM (defensive midfielder) must certainly have :
1. The defensive mentality
- no point in running up all the time
- scoring goal is a bonus, not a necessity

2. The stamina
- you have to run and run.
- usually in a team, there would always be one ball winner sitting in front of the defensive line. ONE.

3. Timing
- tackles need to be made at the right time
- making a wrong move and you would be starring at coloured cards. Certainly a NO.NO.
- clean tackles are beautiful to watch. One person I love to watch is Ryan Giggs. Beautiful sliding tackles and he only takes the ball. Of course at times even he mistimes his tackles.

4. Strong bones
- some opposition players have steel legs. Nothing seems to slow / break them down. Stronger bones gives you the advantage over your opposition anytime.

Players I look up in this position
Roy Keane (ex - MU )
Viera (Inter Milan)
Gattuso (AC MILAN)
Hargreaves (Bayern Munich)
Sissoko (Liverpool)

But things certainly are different when you're playing as an AMC (attacking midfielder center)
1. Vision
- it is utmost important have 360 degrees or the very least 270 degrees to be a AMC
- of course without such vision , you just become a normal midfielder. Normal.
2. Run ins
- it is important to time your runs into the gap left by defenders busy looking after your striker. Call it an oppurtunity to get a goal.
- accuracy counts as well. No point running in and ballooning the ball.

Players I look up in this position :
Scholes (MU)
Gerrard (Liverpool)
Lampard (Chelsea)
Ronaldinho (Barca)
Kaka (AC MIlan)
Cesc (Arsenal)

End of the day, certain things like hardwork, spirit and teamwork must exist without furhter mention. It has to be in build. Football is a team game and all 11 players on the field makes or breaks the team.

* Those interested in managing a team may start first with Football Manager 2007 launched in October 2006. I'm sure Low Yat has stocked up. Time to get virtual.
